The Young, Black Giant of León

Discover Cerro Negro, the youngest volcano in Central America and a playground for thrill-seekers. Just 25 kilometres east of the colonial city of León, this jet‑black cone rises from the Marrabios range to 726 metres above sea level. Cerro Negro was formed in 1850, making it one of the most recent volcanoes in the geological history of the planet. Its name comes from the black volcanic sand that covers its slope.
